But what makes a white wintery, exactly?
Mostly, it’s what’s missing—a starkness, a harsh brilliance. A winter white has warm undertones (yellow, gray, pink) so it’s not a pure color at all. In fact, it’s off-white. Designers have taken to calling it parchment, ecru, ivory, linen, cream, and well … you get the idea. (more…)

Not everyone has the luxury of living in a comfortable, fully furnished home—and no one knows that better than David Connolly and the designers at W.L. Landau, an authorized Ethan Allen retailer in Hartsdale, NY, who are once again teaming up to support Furniture Sharehouse of Westchester County. Since 2007, the agency—one of only 50 or so furniture banks in the U.S.—has distributed more than 57,000 household items to approximately 10,000 local residents in need. (more…)

It’s a long way from Poland to Passaic, New Jersey. And yet you’d never know it by talking to Krystian Kolano, a guy who’s perfectly at ease in a job he clearly loves at the busy Ethan Allen manufacturing facility just across the river from New York City.
Krystian’s journey to America began at age 14 when he moved with his parents and younger brother from their home in Wilcza Wola, a village in southeastern Poland. They settled in Garfield, New Jersey, and while it was worlds away, Krystian found his niche. He made friends, played soccer, and attended high school (where he met his future wife, Agnieszka, whom he married in July). He graduated from Bergen Community College with a degree in accounting, and worked for a moving company until an Ethan Allen help-wanted ad caught his eye. (more…)

Also referred to as NoMad (North of Madison Square Park), the culturally diverse neighborhood includes some of the city’s most acclaimed restaurants, shopping destinations, and well-known architectural attractions, as well as a burgeoning residential community. (more…)
