Meet John Graziano, our Featured Designer of the month! Until this week, John was one of the talented designers at our Garden City, N.Y., Design Center. (He’s now the newest Design Center Manager at our Huntington location—congratulations, John!) We caught up with him recently to ask a few questions about his work.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE ETHAN ALLEN PROJECT?
All of my projects are special to me. One of the great things about being a designer with Ethan Allen is that every client and space brings a new set of design rules to the table. I may be designing a beautiful beach house in the Hamptons while simultaneously designing a traditional Georgian Colonial on Long Island’s Gold Coast. With so many pieces and fabrics to choose from, we get to tell any story we like—and the finished product always puts a smile on my face!
WHAT ETHAN ALLEN ITEM DO YOU CURRENTLY COVET?
The Jocelyn Coffee Table is a must have. I love incorporating those pieces into my designs whenever possible. They’re great starting pieces in terms of style and budget, and their clean lines and finishes can truly work in any setting.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE DESIGN TIP?
“Be true to yourself” is the single most important piece of advice I give to every client, no matter the size or scope of the project. I remind them a home should always be a reflection of who they are.
COMPLETE THIS SENTENCE. EVERY ROOM NEEDS …
Every room needs an element of surprise, whether it’s a pop of color, a well-placed accent, or even a chandelier over a tub. The unexpected always adds one more layer of texture to the overall design.
IS THERE A COLOR YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT, AND WHY?
Black. It adds a touch of sophistication and drama to any space. And there are so many ways to incorporate it—from a matte, distressed, or high-gloss finish to the perfect velvet or silk upholstery fabric. Two statement-making examples: the Birkhouse Display Cabinet in Eclipse finish, or the Wayfarer Console Table in Heirloom Black.
